RCAC FACT SHEET

 

  • What is a career assessment?  A career assessment is a formalized set of instruments designed to bring awareness of realistic career options to middle and high school students.

 

  • Who does a career assessment benefit?  A career assessment helps students better define their career choices and assists counselors and teachers in transition planning and vocational course placement. It also provides recommendations for further training, education and employment. A copy of the individual report is forwarded to the student's school guidance office.

 

  • What does the individual career assessment include?  The process includes an initial interview, learning style inventory, current reading and math grade levels, career interests, work readiness, and aptitude. The report is addressed to the counselor/case manager. The individual assessment is approximately tow-and-a-half hours and takes place either at the home school or at the R-CAC facility.

 

  • What is does an eighth grade group assessment include? The group assessment is an abbreviated battery that is administered at the home school. Students are encouraged to describe their preferred work environment, career interests, and activities that aid their learning. The report is addressed to the student, with a copy to the counselor. A group assessment usually takes less than one hour.

 

  • Who should receive a career assessment? Any student can benefit from career assessment. Students with special needs will be given first priority.

 

  • How is a student referred for career assessment? The high school liaison refers exceptional education students for career assessment. Other students should be referred through their school counselors.

 

  • Is there a different form for eighth grade and high school referrals?  Yes. These can be downloaded from the FORMS tab on our website, or by contacting the Richmond Career Assessment Center. You may also access the eighth grade and high school forms at the following links:
